Carolyn Reed
Long time and well loved high school English teacher, Carolyn Reed, passed away last week and we are mourning her loss alongside her family and friends. Carolyn made an indelible mark on everyone she came into contact with and we were honored to have her work for us for 15 years (1991-2006). We have asked a former colleague/friend and a former student to share a few words; you will find those below.
Rest in Peace, Mrs. Reed–O good and faithful servant! |
When I think of Mrs. Reed, I’m reminded of many wonderful memories. Early morning English class was always the highlight of my day. She was so patient and attentive to each one of her students. When I walked into the classroom, I was always greeted with her lovely smile and kind greeting! She always made sure to hold us accountable for our work and our faith, ensuring that we remembered that Jesus was always our provider. I remember her attending so many events and always supporting the students in any way that she could. Her love for teaching was evident every day and I took so much into my daily life that she taught me. She truly was a blessing in my education and personal life as a young adult and I know she is watching over all of us from God’s majestic kingdom. God speed to you!

Joy to the world! Carolyn was the embodiment of joy! Not only could you see it in her eyes, but her whole body exuded the Joy of the Lord! And the Energizer Bunny! We traveled many times together to Europe. After a long flight, she suggested we rest a bit. Fifteen minutes into my rest, she was knocking at my door! “C’mon, let’s go!” We went!
I couldn’t have had a better friend. We prayed together, cried together, and boy did we laugh together until tears ran down our cheeks! She always stopped whatever she was doing to listen to me and offered wonderful words of encouragement, wisdom and comfort with unbelievable compassion! She prayed for me!
Recall the fruit of the Spirit. Carolyn exhibited each of those gifts: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. That was Carolyn! Well, there was one time when we were watching “House” and I asked her a question. She immediately and strongly “Shushed” me! Never did get an answer.
As I have said, I could never have asked for a better friend. We loved each other dearly and shared many wonderful moments together that I will hold in my heart as the treasure that was Carolyn.
